ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − It didn’t take long for freshman forward Annika Hogberg (Storvreta, Sweden/Celsiuisskolan) to make an impact on the Flagler College team. In the 12th minute, Annika scored her first collegiate goal when she collected a fumble by the Lynn goalkeeper and booted the ball in on an open net. The goal gave Flagler a 1-0 lead and the Saints would go on to a 2-0 season opening win over Lynn University Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.

Sophomore midfielder Tiffany Urquhart (Ormond Beach, Fla./Seabreeze HS) converted a penalty kick in the 71st minute to cap the scoring. Senior goalkeeper Hope McArthur (Venice, Fla./Andrew College) collected nine saves for the shutout, the first in her career.

Lynn (1-1) out-shot Flagler 16-7 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks, but had a tough time trying to solve McArthur and find an opening.

The Flagler defense marked Lynn’s star forward Molly Anderson well all day as she was only able to get off two shots on goal. Last Thursday, she scored a hat trick in Lynn’s 4-2 win at Embry-Riddle.

Natalie Pelletier recorded one save for Lynn.

Flagler wins its first season opener since Aug. 25, 2005 when it defeated Palm Beach Atlantic University 3-2.

Flagler will host 17th-ranked (NAIA) Savannah College of Art and Design on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Saints Field.
